ABIA STATE AGRIC REVOLUTION GAINS MOMENTUM AS FORTUNE WELL FARM GRADUATES 66 YOUTHS IN LANDMARK JOINT AGRICULTURAL INTERVENTION PROGRAMME
Fortune Well Farm has successfully graduated 66 agricultural trainees under the Joint Agricultural Intervention Programme sponsored by the Abia State Government in collaboration with the Abia State chapter of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), marking another significant stride in the state’s drive toward sustainable food security and youth empowerment.
The programme, which was officially flagged off in November 2025 by the Executive Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, is part of a strategic effort to reposition agriculture as a viable economic pathway for young people across the 17 local government areas of the state. Fortune Well Farm was selected as one of the certified consultants to implement the intensive training.
During the flag-off ceremony held at the JAAC Building in Umuahia, the Managing Director of Fortune Well Farm, Hon. Dannie “Manja” Ubani, explained that the initiative is designed to create a sustainable agricultural ecosystem capable of guaranteeing food security, employment, and wealth creation for Abians. He emphasized that the Abia State Government, working through the 17 local government councils, intends to establish functional farms in each LGA to serve as incubation and capacity-building centres for emerging farmers.
According to him, these farms will not only produce food but also function as training hubs where young people can acquire modern agricultural skills, practical experience, and entrepreneurial knowledge required to thrive in agribusiness.
A standout moment of the graduation ceremony was the inspiring success story of one of the trainees, Madu Favor, whose journey embodied the impact of the programme. Madu, who was sent from Owerri by his elder brother for a two-month advanced training in modern piggery, pork processing, and agribusiness, distinguished himself through exceptional dedication and curiosity. His enthusiasm for learning earned him close mentorship at Fortune Well Farm, where he transitioned from a trainee to a mentee.
Rather than completing the programme within the scheduled two months, Madu extended his stay to three and a half months to further refine his skills and deepen his practical experience. At the end of the training, he was awarded a certificate of completion and received additional support to kick-start his agribusiness journey. In a gesture that underscored the farm’s commitment to practical empowerment, Fortune Well Farm supported his take-off with five pigs, enabling him to commence operations on his own farm in January 2026.
The graduation ceremony attracted key stakeholders in the local government system, including the Executive Chairman of Obingwa Local Government Area, Hon. Maxwell Nwadike, and the Executive Chairman of Isiala Ngwa North Local Government Area, Amb. Innocent Uruakpa, who joined in celebrating the graduands and commended the initiative for its grassroots impact.
In appreciation of the quality of training, mentorship, and humane treatment they received throughout the programme, the trainees presented a framed portrait to the Managing Director of Fortune Well Farm, Hon. Dannie Ubani, as a symbol of gratitude and lasting partnership.
The event concluded with the formal issuance of certificates of completion to all trainees, reinforcing the programme’s focus on skill acquisition, self-reliance, and the long-term goal of transforming Abia State into a hub of agricultural productivity and foo
d sufficiency.
