Abia Records Encouraging Progress in Statewide Agricultural Intervention Programme Across 17 LGAs
The Abia State Government has announced encouraging progress in its agricultural intervention programme, which is being implemented across all 17 Local Government Areas of the state as part of efforts to boost agricultural productivity, strengthen food security and create sustainable economic opportunities for residents.
The Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, disclosed this on Monday, November 2, 2026, while briefing journalists in Umuahia on the outcome of this week’s State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Alex Otti at Government House, Umuahia.
He explained that the intervention programme, being implemented in partnership with the 17 Local Government Areas, was strategically designed to transform agriculture into a viable economic enterprise by encouraging investments, expanding food production and creating employment opportunities for the people.
According to the Commissioner, the initiative goes beyond increasing agricultural output, as it is also focused on developing sustainable agricultural enterprises and strengthening the various value chains within the state’s agricultural sector.
The programme is expected to unlock the economic potential of agriculture across the state by improving food production, supporting agricultural investments and creating opportunities for individuals and businesses to participate in different aspects of the agricultural value chain.
Prince Kanu further highlighted that the overarching objective of the intervention is to build a stronger and more productive agricultural sector capable of improving food security, generating sustainable livelihoods and contributing significantly to Abia’s economic growth.
The statewide initiative underscores the Otti administration’s commitment to repositioning agriculture as a major driver of economic development, food sufficiency and employment generation, while ensuring that the benefits of agricultural investments extend to communities across all 17 LGAs of A

bia State.
