ABIA STATE TO OFFICIALLY HAND OVER 35 HOUSING UNITS TO WIDOWS ACROSS 17 LGAs TODAY.
The Office of the Wife of the Governor of Abia State, in collaboration with the Abia State Ministry of Women Affairs, is set to officially hand over 35 housing units to 35 widows drawn from the 17 Local Government Areas of the state today, Tuesday, 26 May, 2026.
The empowerment programme, which forms part of ongoing social welfare interventions of the state government, is aimed at providing decent shelter and restoring dignity to widows who have been identified across various communities in Abia State.
The official ceremony will take place at Umuhute Ahieke Ndume, Umuahia, beginning at 11:00am, and is expected to attract government officials, community leaders, and beneficiaries from all parts of the state.
Facilitated by the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Policy and Intervention, the housing distribution exercise reflects the administration’s continued commitment to supporting vulnerable groups and strengthening social protection systems across the state.
The initiative is also expected to reinforce the government’s broader agenda of inclusive development, particularly in addressing housing challenges and improving the welfare of disadvantaged citizens.
Officials say the programme underscores the strong collaboration between key government institutions in delivering targeted interventions that directly impact grassroots communities.
The event marks another milestone in the state’s social investment drive, with emphasis on equity, compassion, and improved living conditions for widows across Abia State.
