ASTOPU ABA ZONE RECOVERS STOLEN TRICYCLE, STRENGTHENS SANITISATION DRIVE IN ABA
The Abia State Tricycle Operators Union (ASTOPU), Aba Zone, has recorded another breakthrough in its ongoing efforts to sanitise and strengthen security within the tricycle transportation sector with the successful recovery of a stolen tricycle in Aba.
The tricycle, belonging to Mr. Samuel, an indigene of Abiriba in Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia State, was reportedly stolen on Friday, May 22, 2026. Following the incident, the owner immediately commenced a frantic search while also reporting the matter to the ASTOPU Task Force Office in Aba.
Speaking after the recovery of the tricycle, Mr. Samuel expressed immense joy and gratitude to the leadership and task force team of ASTOPU Aba Zone for their swift intervention and commitment that led to the successful recovery of the vehicle. He noted that he had almost lost hope of ever seeing the tricycle again until the union stepped in through its coordinated security and monitoring network.
He commended the ongoing reforms within ASTOPU Aba Zone under the leadership of the Aba Zonal Chairman, Hon. Victor Azubuike, describing the union as more organised, disciplined and purposeful in protecting the interests of operators across the commercial city.
Mr. Samuel further linked the renewed efficiency within the union to the broader reforms and leadership direction introduced by the Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, which he said have continued to reposition various sectors of the state for accountability and effectiveness.
Also speaking, the Head of the ASTOPU Task Force, Comrade Oyinbo, disclosed that immediately the case was reported and information circulated across the union’s monitoring units, operatives swung into action and intensified surveillance within strategic locations in Aba.
According to him, barely three days after the report was lodged, the stolen tricycle was successfully recovered along Port Harcourt Road in Aba. The owner later confirmed that the vehicle was eventually traced and recovered at Bistro Park situated along the busy Port Harcourt Road axis of the city.
The successful operation has further reinforced public confidence in the activities of ASTOPU Aba Zone as stakeholders continue to applaud the union’s renewed commitment towards security, discipline and sanitisation of the tricycle transport
system in Aba.
