The Abia State Government has fulfilled its commitment to clear the backlog of salaries owed to former staff of Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic, now Abia State Polytechnic, in line with Governor Alex Otti’s promise to settle all verified arrears inherited from the previous administration.

This update was made known by the Commissioner for Information, Prince Sir Okey Kanu, during a press briefing on Monday at the Government House, Umuahia, after this week’s State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Otti.

According to the Commissioner, the affected ex-staff have been substantially paid, marking another milestone in the Otti administration’s ongoing drive to restore workers’ confidence and uphold transparency in public service management.

Prince Kanu further explained that less than 10% of the affected staff are yet to receive their payments, attributing the delay to some technical issues currently being resolved by the Office of the Commissioner for Finance and the Accountant General.

He reaffirmed the government’s unwavering commitment to ensuring that every verified worker who is owed by past administrations receives full payment, noting that Governor Otti’s leadership remains focused on correcting inherited injustices and promoting fairness in Abia’s workforce management.

The development once again underscores the Otti administration’s people-centered governance approach, which prioritizes workers’ welfare, accountability, and the rebuilding of trust between the state government and its employees.
