Abia State Government Accelerates Infrastructure Development as 49 Direct Labour Interventions, Key Roads Completed, and Drainage Projects Underway
The Abia State Ministry of Works has intensified its infrastructure delivery, executing direct labour interventions in 49 locations across the state, as part of ongoing efforts to improve road networks and drainage systems ahead of the rainy season.
This disclosure was made on Tuesday by Prince Okey Kanu, Commissioner for Information, during a press briefing on the outcome of this week’s Executive Council Meeting presided over by Governor Alex Otti.
According to the Commissioner, the Ministry successfully completed three major road projects and added one new project to its maintenance portfolio. The completed projects include:
— Christ the King Avenue, Umuahia
— Lekwesi-Leru Road, Umunneochi Local Government Area
— Ken Ahia Avenue, Umuahia
Prince Kanu further highlighted that ongoing direct labour works involve the desilting of major drains in Aba, with plans to extend the exercise to Umuahia and other key towns across Abia State in preparation for the rainy season.
In addition to these direct labour interventions, the Commissioner revealed that a total of 31 road projects are currently on contract at various locations across the state, with construction progressing steadily. This demonstrates the government’s commitment to enhancing road infrastructure, ensuring proper drainage, and fostering sustainable urban development for the people of Abia.
