Abia State Govt Unveils Five-Day STEM Week to Boost Innovation, Digital Skills Among Students
The Abia State Government has announced plans to organise a five-day Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Week for secondary school students across the state as part of ongoing efforts to promote innovation, digital literacy and technology-driven education among young people.
The initiative, which is being championed through the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, is aimed at exposing students to emerging technologies, encouraging creativity and preparing the younger generation for opportunities in the rapidly evolving digital economy.
The Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, disclosed this while briefing journalists on the outcome of this week’s State Executive Council meeting presided over by State Governor, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti.
Prince Kanu explained that the STEM Week would feature the exhibition of educational technology solutions designed to enhance learning and innovation in schools across the state.
According to him, the programme would also witness the launch of a dedicated STEM platform expected to provide students and educators with access to digital learning resources, innovation tools and collaborative opportunities in science and technology education.
In a move geared towards encouraging greater female participation in the technology ecosystem, the state government will equally establish Girls in ICT Clubs in 30 secondary schools across Abia State.
The initiative is expected to inspire more young girls to embrace careers in information and communication technology while helping to bridge the gender gap in the technology sector.
Observers say the programme further reflects the commitment of the administration of Alex Otti to repositioning Abia as a hub for innovation, digital transformation and knowledge-based development through strategic investments in education and technology.
