Abia State Set to Join Global Community in Commemorating 2025 World Food Day on October 15

Abia State will join the global community in commemorating the 2025 edition of World Food Day on Wednesday, October 15, at the International Conference Centre, Umuahia.

This announcement was made by the Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, during a press briefing on Monday, following the weekly Executive Council (SEC) meeting presided over by Governor Alex Otti.

According to Prince Kanu, this year’s event, themed “Hand in Hand for Better Food and a Better Future,” will focus on promoting collective action toward building sustainable, resilient, and inclusive food systems capable of ensuring food security for all.

The Commissioner explained that the celebration provides an opportunity for governments, organizations, and individuals to reflect on their roles in combating global hunger and promoting healthy nutrition. He added that the Abia State Government remains committed to enhancing food production and supporting local farmers through policies that strengthen agricultural productivity and sustainability.

Prince Kanu further called on all stakeholders in the agricultural value chain including higher institutions, development partners, research bodies, and local communities to collaborate closely in achieving a food-secure future.

He emphasized that through synergy and shared responsibility, Abia State can contribute meaningfully to the global effort to end hunger, improve nutrition, and ensure a healthier and more prosperous future for its citizens.
