IWD 2026: Empowering Women, Transforming Communities — Mrs. Nina Iheke’s Powerful Message on IWD 2026”
On the occasion of International Women’s Day 2026, themed “Rights. Justice. Action. For ALL Women and Girls,” Mrs. Nina Iheke, Wife of the Executive Chairman of Aba North Local Government Area, Hon. Timothy Kalu Iheke, has urged a nationwide call to action to dismantle barriers that deny women and girls equal justice.
In a passionate statement, Mrs. Iheke highlighted that discriminatory laws, weak legal protections, harmful traditional practices, and oppressive social norms continue to undermine the rights of women and girls, stressing the urgent need for collective action to confront these injustices.
“Rights without action are empty promises, and justice delayed is injustice itself. Every woman and every girl deserves to live free from fear, oppression, and inequality,” she stated, describing the fight for women’s rights as both urgent and non-negotiable.
Mrs. Iheke lauded the support of her husband, Hon. Timothy Kalu Iheke, whose administration in Aba North has prioritized programs that empower women economically, socially, and politically, creating opportunities for women to thrive in leadership, education, and entrepreneurship. She emphasized that these initiatives have transformed lives and strengthened the role of women in the community.
She also commended Her Excellency, Mrs. Priscilla Chidinma Otti, Wife of the Governor of Abia State, for her unwavering commitment to empowering women across Aba North and the state. Through her programs, women have been equipped with vital skills, knowledge, and resources to emerge as leaders, innovators, and change-makers in their communities.
Mrs. Iheke concluded by urging governments, civil society organizations, and community leaders to take bold steps to remove all obstacles that prevent women and girls from realizing their full potential.
“Let us commit to a future where every girl can dream fearlessly, every woman can live safely and equally, and where justice is not a privilege but a right for all,” she said.
The statement comes as Aba North and other communities across Abia State join the global celebration of women’s achievements while renewing calls for justice, equality, and meaningful action to safeguard the rights of women and girls.
