BREAKING NEWS: “ABIA TO RECEIVE FIRST-EVER ELECTRIC BUSES TODAY.” — Abia State Information Commissioner, Prince Okey Kanu Discloses, Says This Will Mark A Historical Milestone in Nigeria’s Transportation Sector

Abia State is on the verge of making history as the first Nigerian state to officially roll out government-owned electric buses, with the initial batch scheduled to arrive before the end of today, Sunday, November 23, 2025.

According to the Abia State Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, twenty units of the newly acquired 40-seater electric buses, specially designed for safe, clean, and efficient mass transit are currently en route from Lagos after being unveiled at Apapa following their arrival from China.

The electric buses, procured through a strategic partnership between the Abia State Government and Coscharis Group form a major pillar of Governor Alex Otti’s modern transportation agenda aimed at redefining mobility across the state.

Each bus boasts a 300-kilometre driving range on a single charge and comes fitted with state-of-the-art features including internal and rear cameras, passenger mobile charging ports, disability-accessible entry systems, emergency exits, and dual fire-extinguisher safety installations.

To ensure uninterrupted daily operations, Coscharis Group is also collaborating with the state government to establish a solar-powered charging hub dedicated to the fleet, eliminating reliance on public electricity and guaranteeing sustainable energy for the buses.

This first batch is only the beginning, as another twenty buses are already in production, with more batches planned under the state’s long-term clean mobility strategy.

With this development, Abia State positions itself as a national pacesetter in eco-friendly transportation, mass transit safety enhancement, and tourism-supportive infrastructure. The arrival of the first units later today marks the dawn of a new era of modern, comfortable, and environmentally responsible public transportation for Abians.
