FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike Alleges Assassination Plot During 2019 Elections, Accuses Former Army General Saham, of Attempting to K*ll Him on Amaechi’s Orders

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has made startling revelations, alleging that an a$$assination attempt was made on his life during the 2019 general elections.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Channels Television on Thursday, Wike accused a former senior military officer, General Saham, who once served as the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 6 Division of the Nigerian Army, of being instructed to eliminate him.

“General Saham, former General Officer Commanding 6 Division, tried to k*ll me. Amaechi promised to make him the next Chief of Staff. General Saham ordered that I should be shot,” Wike alleged.

According to the former Rivers State governor, the plot was politically motivated, with promises of elevation in the military hierarchy allegedly used to secure the general’s cooperation.

Wike further disclosed that his refusal to visit the office of the National Security Adviser (NSA) after the elections was deliberate, as he had discovered that General Saham had been redeployed there.

“When I heard that he is now in the NSA office, I refused to go there,” he said.

The FCT minister also recounted the ordeal of a colonel who defied the alleged order to shoot him. He claimed the officer was punished severely for disobedience.

“General Saham ordered that as a sitting governor that I should be shot. And when the Colonel refused, he was detained for six months,” Wike stated.

He maintained that while many opposition governors in Nigeria now complain of harassment, intimidation, and threats under the current political climate, none of them faced the level of danger and direct threats to life that he endured during his tenure as Rivers State governor.

Wike’s allegations add a new dimension to the controversies surrounding the 2019 elections, reopening debates on the role of the military in politics and the dangers faced by politicians in high-stakes contests.
