Gov. Alex Otti’s Transport Revolution Moves Over 326,000 Passengers as Abia Expands Modern Transit Infrastructure
The Executive Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, has revealed that the state’s transport initiative has successfully conveyed over 326,000 passengers, as his administration intensifies efforts to build a modern, efficient and sustainable transportation system across the state.
Governor Otti made the disclosure on Friday, during the May edition of the monthly media parley, tagged “Governor Otti Speaks to Abians“, where he reviewed key achievements as his administration marks three years in office.
Speaking on the progress recorded in the transportation sector, the Governor disclosed that the state government is set to further strengthen the transport scheme with the arrival of additional buses in the coming months.
According to him, 20 new buses are expected to arrive by July, while another 30 buses would be delivered before the end of the year to improve mobility, ease transportation challenges and support economic activities across different parts of the state.
Governor Otti also announced that the Umuahia Multimodal Transport Terminal has been completed and is scheduled for commissioning on May 27, describing the project as a major milestone in the state’s transportation reform agenda.
He further stated that work is progressing steadily on the Aba terminal, which is expected to be completed next year, adding that the terminals are designed to provide a more organized, safe and convenient travel experience for commuters.
As part of efforts to ensure sustainability and reduce operational costs in the transport sector, the Governor disclosed that the government is installing solar hybrid charging systems for buses.
He added that the administration has equally delivered 70 bus shelters across Umuahia and Aba to improve passenger comfort and enhance urban mobility infrastructure within the two major cities.
Governor Otti who reeled out his administration’s major achievement across key sectors including health, education, women and youth development, power,public utilities, said they were part of efforts to drive economic growth and transform the state.
The Governor maintained that his administration has remained committed to restoring public trust in governance through prudent management of state resources, transparency and people-oriented reforms aimed at improving the living conditions of Abians.
He noted that the achievements recorded so far have helped to rebuild confidence in leadership while restoring the pride and dignity of citizens both within and outside the state.
“The most important part of this administration is the impact it has made in human capital development, infrastructure, fiscal responsibility, social justice and restoring the dignity of our people.
“So, without any fear of contradiction, we can say that we have restored the pride of our people, both home and abroad. And it is not our certainty, it is your trust in us that helped us collectively do it,” Governor Otti stated.
