Governor Otti Firmly Remains in Labour Party as Abia Government Debunks Defection Rumour

The Abia State Government has dismissed as false and mischievous the viral reports circulating on social media and some online platforms alleging that Governor Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, has defected from the Labour Party (LP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a statement issued on Monday, October 20, 2025, by the Honourable Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, the government described the publication as a fabrication by political propagandists unsettled by the Governor’s outstanding performance and growing popularity across party lines.

According to the statement, the false report was a desperate attempt to distract the people of Abia and sow confusion where none exists. The government reaffirmed that Governor Otti remains a proud and committed member of the Labour Party, the political platform under which Abians overwhelmingly elected him to lead the state.

The Commissioner further reminded the public that only last week, during the October edition of “Governor Alex Otti Speaks to Abians,” the Governor made it clear that his interest lies not in political permutations or defections but in service to humanity and the continued transformation of Abia State.

He reiterated that Governor Otti’s administration is anchored on transparency, fiscal discipline, infrastructural renewal, economic growth, youth empowerment, and the restoration of public confidence in governance, values deeply rooted in the Labour Party’s principles.

The Abia State Government therefore urged the public to disregard the fake report, describing it as a cheap political propaganda aimed at diverting attention from the remarkable progress being achieved under the current administration.

Prince Okey Kanu assured Abians that Governor Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, remains resolute and focused on his mission to build a new Abia founded on truth, justice, and equity under the Labour Party.
