Horror in Aba as Young Man Shot Dead Near Oris Club, Aba, as Authorities Launch Investigation
Residents of Aba were thrown into shock and fear following the gruesome killing of a young man within the premises of Cookies Eatery, directly opposite Oris Club in Aba North Local Government Area of Abia State.
The tragic incident reportedly occurred at about 10:32pm on Wednesday night, May 13, 2026, sending panic across the area as residents and business operators scampered for safety.
According to eyewitness accounts, the victim was allegedly attacked by suspected cult group members who reportedly shot him at close range before inflicting severe machete wounds on his body. The brutal assault reportedly lasted for several moments before the victim eventually succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Sources around the area disclosed that the sound of gunshots and the ensuing chaos attracted the attention of residents and passersby, many of whom fled the vicinity in fear of further violence.
Security operatives were later seen at the scene of the incident during the night as efforts were made to restore calm, secure the environment, and commence preliminary investigations into the killing.
By Thursday morning, emotions ran high as the victim’s mother arrived at the scene in tears while sympathizers and residents gathered in groups discussing the shocking development.
The Mayor of Aba North LGA, Hon. Timothy Kalu Iheke, was said to have immediately contacted security agencies, particularly the police, to ensure a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the murder and to identify those responsible for the attack.
Also reacting to the incident, the Councillor representing the area, Hon. Alfred Julius, reportedly collaborated with the Mayor and relevant authorities to facilitate the evacuation of the victim’s remains while further inquiries continue into the motive behind the deadly attack.
Residents have also begun expressing fears over what many describe as a possible resurgence of cult-related activities in Aba, especially after the Abia State Government had successfully curtailed such violent incidents for a prolonged period. Many residents are now calling for intensified security surveillance and swift action by law enforcement agencies to prevent a return to the era of cult violence and criminal unrest in the c
