Abia North Senatorial Aspirant, Dr. Emeka Charles Kalu, Withdraws From Race to Preserve Party Unity and Support Governor Otti’s Re-election
Political stakeholders within Abia State were greeted with a major development following the announcement by Dr. Emeka Charles Kalu that he has officially withdrawn his aspiration for the Abia North Senatorial race.
In a statement addressed to stakeholders of his party, Dr. Kalu explained that his decision came after deep reflection and careful consideration, stressing that the move was made in the overall interest of the party and to strengthen the chances of the party ahead of future elections.
According to him, the withdrawal was not out of fear or political weakness, but a deliberate sacrifice aimed at protecting the unity, peace, and stability of the party. He emphasized that true leadership demands wisdom, sacrifice, and the ability to place collective interests above personal ambition.
Dr. Kalu warned that a heated primary election could consume enormous resources, create avoidable divisions, and leave many party faithful aggrieved, a situation he believes could weaken the party’s structure ahead of the general elections.
He maintained that the party must remain united and focused on securing victory across all elective positions, particularly in ensuring the reelection of the state Governor, whom he described as hardworking and performing.
The former aspirant further noted that he could not continue to pursue his personal political ambition while the peace and progress of the party were potentially at risk. He added that the party had given many members, including himself, a platform and opportunity to serve, making his withdrawal a contribution towards strengthening the party’s collective future.
Dr. Kalu also expressed deep appreciation to his supporters, friends, political associates, youths, women, elders, and stakeholders who stood firmly behind his aspiration throughout the political journey. He acknowledged their sacrifices, encouragement, and loyalty, assuring them that their support would never be taken for granted.
Calling for continued unity among party members, he urged stakeholders to work together with one vision and common purpose for the growth of the party and the development of Abia State.
He further disclosed plans to meet with the Governor to formally communicate the collective resolve behind his decision.
The announcement has already begun generating reactions within political circles in Abia State, with many observers describing the move as a strategic sacrifice aimed at strengthening party cohesion ahead of the forthcoming elections.
