“I Looked at One Hell of a Beautiful Ass Before: Nicki Minaj” — U.S. President, Donald Trump Says, Praises Rapper at Michigan Rally
U.S. President Donald Trump has showered rapper Nicki Minaj with compliments during a Republican campaign rally in Michigan, praising her beauty, intelligence and loyalty to his political movement after she joined him aboard Air Force One and publicly reaffirmed her support for his presidency.
Trump made the remarks on Sunday, October 25, when the 43-year-old rapper accompanied him to Port Huron, Michigan, for a campaign event aimed at boosting Republican candidates ahead of the crucial midterm elections. The appearance highlighted the increasingly close relationship between Trump and Minaj, who has transformed from a vocal critic of some of his policies during his first presidency into one of his most prominent celebrity supporters in his second term.
The rally brought together the president, the award-winning rapper and Republican candidates seeking to strengthen their political positions in Michigan, as the party faces projections from analysts suggesting a possible Democratic wave in the midterm elections. Among those seeking Republican support were former U.S. Representative Mike Rogers, who is facing Democrat Abdul El-Sayed, and Representative John James, who is contesting against Democratic Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson in the race to succeed outgoing Governor Gretchen Whitmer.
During his nearly two-hour appearance, Trump drew attention when he referenced earlier remarks about appreciating the backside of Republican Ohio Senator Jon Husted, explaining that the comments had been made humorously and that reporting about them had omitted the context of Husted’s football background.
Trump then made a remark about Minaj that immediately became one of the most talked-about moments of the event.
“I’ve never done that with a man before. Off the record, women? Yes. Men? No. By the way, I looked at one hell of a beautiful ass before: Nicki Minaj,“ Trump said.
Turning his attention to the rapper, known for hits including Super Bass, Starships and Anaconda, Trump added, “That’s hard to miss,“ before encouraging her to stand up in front of the audience.
“Stand up! That’s hard to miss,” he said.
Minaj responded by rising from her seat and waving to the cheering crowd, prompting Trump to continue his praise.
“I hope Nicki wasn’t insulted, but we love Nicki. She’s been with us for a long time.“
The exchange underscored the playful atmosphere surrounding their joint appearance, with Trump using his trademark humour while publicly celebrating the rapper’s presence at the Republican gathering.
Trump’s compliments did not end with his remarks about Minaj’s appearance. Later in the evening, after the rapper delivered a short speech urging Americans to support the president and Republican candidates, Trump praised her beauty and intelligence.
“She never looked more beautiful,“ he said.
He also described the rapper as a particularly impressive individual, adding, “She is a very special person. She gets it, smart.“
The president’s comments reinforced the admiration he has increasingly expressed for Minaj since she began publicly aligning herself with his political movement.
Trump also appeared to acknowledge the rapper’s ability to command attention, joking as he introduced her to the audience that her celebrity status could overshadow his own.
“You know, I don’t like being overshadowed, and this woman overshadows me, and I’m angry about it. They’re going crazy over her.“
The remark drew attention to Minaj’s enormous international following and her ability to attract public interest beyond the traditional Republican political base.
Minaj’s political evolution has attracted considerable attention, particularly because she previously criticised aspects of Trump’s immigration policies during his first term in office.
In recent months, however, the rapper has increasingly appeared alongside Trump and expressed support for his administration and political agenda.
Her appearances have included the U.S. Treasury Department’s Trump Accounts summit and a White House Rose Garden luncheon, signalling her growing involvement in events associated with the president’s second-term priorities.
Her relationship with Trump has also become a subject of public discussion following her repeated expressions of admiration for him.
The rapper’s growing support for the president has been particularly notable given her global influence in the entertainment industry and her ability to mobilise a substantial fan base through social media.
Trump’s latest praise comes three months after he joked about Minaj twerking during a rescheduled White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner.
The event had originally been scheduled for April 25 but was disrupted after a gunman allegedly opened fire outside the venue. During his subsequent remarks about the incident, Trump recalled attendees shouting, “Get down!” and made a joke involving the rapper.
When Trump introduced Minaj at Sunday’s Michigan rally, the rapper wasted little time making her political allegiance clear.
After reaching the podium, she led the audience in chanting, “We love Trump.“
She subsequently encouraged residents of Michigan to become actively involved in what she described as a significant political movement at a pivotal moment for the United States.
Minaj urged the audience to “be a leader in this movement that’s happening right now,“ describing the moment as “a major turning point for our country“
Her remarks focused partly on her opposition to gender-affirming medical care for transgender children, an issue that has become a major point of political disagreement between Republicans and Democrats in the United States.
“We want our children to grow up in a place where we can be proud of.
“We don’t want our children to be bombarded with sex changes, right?
“We want people to leave the children alone, leave them out of it,“ she said.
Her comments reflected positions frequently advanced by Trump and other Republican politicians in debates surrounding transgender rights and healthcare for minors.
The speech was brief, but it gave Minaj an opportunity to communicate her political views directly to the crowd while reinforcing her support for the president.
Minaj concluded her remarks by addressing Trump directly and declaring that her support for him would continue.
“President Trump, it is an honor to stand with you every single time, and I will continue to support you forever and ever. If you run again, I will support you again.“
Her declaration was among the clearest expressions of loyalty she has made during her recent appearances alongside the president.
The statement also demonstrated the extent to which the rapper has embraced her role as a celebrity supporter of Trump’s political movement, despite her previous criticism of some of his policies.
For Trump, Minaj’s participation offers an opportunity to connect with audiences beyond conventional political circles, particularly younger entertainment fans and followers of contemporary hip-hop.
For Minaj, the partnership places her increasingly at the centre of America’s political conversation, where her public statements and celebrity status have become intertwined with the president’s campaign activities.
Their joint appearance in Port Huron therefore went beyond an ordinary celebrity appearance at a political rally. It combined Trump’s characteristic humour, Minaj’s star power and an unmistakable display of political allegiance as
Republicans seek to energise their supporters ahead of the midterm elections.
