“If Obi Could Win Without Us, How Much More With Us Now in NDC?” — Sen. Ovie Omo-Agege Predicts Stronger Obi Presidential Bid With NDC Backing
Former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, has stirred political discussions with a pointed assessment of Peter Obi’s electoral prospects following the emergence of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as a new political platform.
Omo-Agege, while speaking on the political realignment surrounding Obi and other opposition figures, expressed confidence that the former Anambra State governor’s chances could become even stronger with the backing of the emerging coalition.
The senator said, “If Obi could win without us, how much more with us now in NDC?“
His remark highlights the growing optimism among supporters of the opposition movement, particularly as political actors seek to consolidate forces ahead of Nigeria’s next major electoral contest.
The statement also points to the significance of political alliances in determining electoral strength. Obi recorded significant support in the 2023 presidential election despite contesting under the Labour Party, a relatively smaller political platform at the time. His supporters have since maintained that a broader coalition could provide the organisational structure and nationwide reach needed to mount an even stronger challenge.
Omo-Agege’s comments are therefore likely to fuel further debate over the potential impact of the NDC and the possibility of a more coordinated opposition movement.
With Nigeria’s political landscape already witnessing realignments, defections and negotiations among major political actors, attention is increasingly focused on whether the emerging coalition can translate its combined influence into a formidable electoral force.
The senator’s confidence suggests that those behind the NDC believe the political equation could change significantly if previously fragmented opposition interests come together under a common platform.
