JUSUN Suspends Strike in Abia After Agreement With Abia State Govt.
The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria, Abia State Branch, has officially suspended its industrial action following the successful signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Abia State Government, bringing relief to judiciary workers and court users across the state.
In a press release issued on May 14, 2026, the union disclosed that the decision to call off the strike took immediate effect after its Congress ratified the agreement reached with the state government, noting that the MOU substantially addressed the demands earlier presented by the union.
JUSUN praised the intervention of Alex Chioma Otti, describing his administration as committed to the welfare of judiciary workers and the strengthening of the judicial system in Abia State.
The union further expressed gratitude to the people of Abia State and members of the public for their patience, understanding, and support throughout the duration of the industrial action, especially in the broader struggle for the emancipation and independence of the judiciary.
Special appreciation was also extended to the Honorable Chief Judge of Abia State, Lilian Abai, alongside the management of the judiciary, judges, members of the bench, and the Nigerian Bar Association for their support, encouragement, and interventions during the strike period.
JUSUN equally commended its members for demonstrating resilience, discipline, unity, and unwavering commitment to the pursuit of justice and the rule of law despite the challenges encountered during the industrial action.
According to the union, the suspension of the strike marks a significant milestone in the ongoing pursuit of a more financially autonomous, efficient, and independent judiciary in Abia State. It reaffirmed its commitment to supporting all lawful and constructive efforts aimed at improving justice delivery and strengthening judicial institutions in the state.
The union also expressed optimism that all terms contained in the Memorandum of Understanding would be fully implemented in line with the spirit of the agreement, stressing that faithful execution of the resolutions would further enhance effective justice administration in Abia State.
