Labour Party Unveils Digital Membership Registration Platform in Abia, Directs Ward Leaders to Begin Data Collection
The Abia State chapter of the Labour Party has announced the launch of a new digital membership registration platform aimed at strengthening the party’s administrative structure and ensuring compliance with electoral regulations.
According to a statement issued by the State Publicity Secretary, Mazi Chidiebere Okoro, the platform developed by the party’s ICT Department will officially go live on Monday, March 9, 2026.
The party explained that the digital system is designed to modernize its membership database, improve transparency, and create a more efficient process for registering and documenting members across the state.
As part of preparations for the rollout, all Ward Chairmen across Abia State have been directed to return to their ward registers and immediately begin the process of collecting updated information from every registered member of the party.
The party set next weekend as the deadline for the submission of the required data.
According to the directive, the information to be collected from members includes full name, sex, date of birth, residential address, state of origin, local government area, ward, polling unit, National Identification Number (NIN), and a passport photograph.
The Labour Party noted that these requirements are in line with provisions of the Electoral Act, which mandates all political parties in Nigeria to maintain both digital and physical membership registers containing accurate personal details of their members. The party warned that failure to comply with these statutory requirements could expose any political party to the risk of deregistration.
Consequently, the party leadership has instructed Ward Chairmen, party stakeholders, labour unions, and members in all wards and union structures to commence the collection of the required information immediately.
The statement further indicated that the collation and uploading of the data into the party’s central digital register will begin on Monday once the platform becomes operational.
Party leaders emphasized that the assignment is of critical importance and urged all members and stakeholders to demonstrate full commitment to the process, stressing that delays or excuses would not be tolerated.
To ensure a smooth exercise, each ward and union structure has been encouraged to convene meetings of their members during the weekend to facilitate the prompt gathering of the required details.
The party leadership assured members that the directive is clear and necessary for strengthening the party’s internal structure and maintaining compliance with national electoral laws.
Members seeking further clarification were advised to contact their respective Local Government Area Chairmen or union leaders.
The statement was signed by Mazi Chidiebere Okoro, State Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party, Abia State Chapter, on behalf of the Labour Party/Organized Labour Coalition in Abia State.
