Mayor Obialor Anyanwu Champions Financial Inclusion as Finsure Microfinance Opens Aba Branch
The drive to deepen financial inclusion and expand access to business funding in Aba received a significant boost on Saturday, July 18, 2026, as the Executive Chairman of Aba South Local Government Area, Hon. Obialor Denis Anyanwu, attended the grand opening of Finsure Microfinance Cooperative Ltd. in Aba.
The event underscored the Aba South administration’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for businesses to thrive while supporting financial institutions that are investing in the commercial capital of Abia State. The Mayor’s presence at the ceremony reaffirmed the local government’s determination to strengthen partnerships that will stimulate economic growth, empower entrepreneurs, and expand opportunities for small and medium-scale enterprises across the council area.
Finsure Microfinance officially commenced operations in Aba with its new branch strategically positioned to serve traders, artisans, entrepreneurs, and residents by bringing accessible financial services closer to the people. The institution is expected to play a vital role in supporting business expansion through affordable financial products tailored to the needs of local enterprises.
Among its flagship offerings is the Finsure Esusu (Akawo) Savings Scheme, designed to help customers conveniently save towards major financial commitments such as house rent, shop rent, school fees, and other personal or business needs. The cooperative also introduced its E-Akawo (Virtual Esusu) platform, enabling customers to save from anywhere in the world while enjoying the services of dedicated account officers and all the traditional benefits of the Esusu system with added digital convenience.
Prospective customers can open accounts free of charge by purchasing a savings card for just ₦200, making participation easy and affordable for traders, artisans, and other members of the business community.
The opening of the financial institution aligns with the economic vision of Governor Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, whose administration has consistently prioritized ease of doing business through reforms aimed at attracting investments, improving the business climate, and positioning Abia as one of Nigeria’s leading destinations for enterprise and innovation.
Within Aba South Local Government Area, Mayor Obialor Anyanwu has continued to mirror this vision by pursuing policies that encourage commerce, attract investors, and create sustainable opportunities for economic growth. His administration recognizes that strengthening local businesses remains one of the most effective pathways to improving livelihoods and expanding prosperity across communities.
As a city renowned for its vibrant entrepreneurial culture, Aba depends heavily on accessible financing to sustain its vast network of traders, manufacturers, artisans, and innovators. Business clusters, including the bustling Eziukwu Market and other commercial hubs, require reliable financial support to increase productivity, manage working capital, and scale operations.
Finsure Microfinance Cooperative Ltd. is expected to fill this critical gap by providing short-term business loans, flexible repayment options, business advisory services, and other financial solutions designed to meet the unique needs of small and medium-scale enterprises.
Stakeholders believe the arrival of the institution will further strengthen Aba’s position as Nigeria’s foremost commercial and manufacturing hub while complementing the efforts of both the Abia State Government and Aba South Local Government to build a resilient, inclusive, and business-friendly economy.
The establishment of the new microfinance institution represents another important milestone in the ongoing transformation of Aba into a city where entrepreneurs have greater access to financial resources, investment opportunities, and the support needed to grow sustainable businesses that will drive long-term ec
onomic prosperity.
