No Victory, No Federal Appointment: Abia APC Sets Tough 2027 Performance Rule
The All Progressives Congress (APC), Abia State chapter, has unveiled a tough new performance-based approach ahead of the 2027 general elections, declaring that party leaders and stakeholders who fail to deliver their polling units, wards or constituencies may no longer be considered for federal appointments.
The new position was announced by the Chairman of the APC in Abia State, Chijioke Chukwu, on Sunday, August 23, 2026, during a post-primary election reconciliation meeting held at the party’s secretariat in Umuahia.
Chukwu made it clear that the era of seeking political appointments without demonstrating electoral value to the party must come to an end, insisting that the performance of APC leaders across the state would be closely monitored during the 2027 elections.
According to him, the party is putting in place a system that would measure the commitment and electoral contributions of its leaders and stakeholders from the grassroots upward. He disclosed that immediately after the elections, the results of polling units, wards and constituencies associated with party leaders would be made public for scrutiny by the party’s national leadership.
The Abia APC chairman stressed that political influence and connections at the federal level would no longer be enough for any party member seeking appointment if such a person could not demonstrate the ability to mobilise support and secure victory for the APC at home.
“Let me tell you, we are working out a modality where people will be rewarded according to their output. If you think you have contacts in Abuja and you lose your polling unit, ward and constituency, and you expect to be made a minister, it is impossible under this regime.
“Immediately after this election, we will publish the polling units of all the leaders and stakeholders of the party. If you cannot win your polling unit, ward and constituency, you have no business being made a federal commissioner or a minister.
“Things must change, and we must follow a new order,” the Abia APC chairman vowed.
Chukwu called on members of the party to close ranks and put aside every disagreement arising from the party’s primary elections, maintaining that reconciliation, unity, focus and sustained political strategy would be critical to the APC’s chances in 2027.
He urged party members to work collectively towards securing victory for President Bola Tinubu and all APC candidates contesting elections in Abia State.
The chairman also issued a strong warning to the party’s House of Assembly candidates and other stakeholders, cautioning them against working for or promoting the interests of rival political parties at the expense of the APC.
The declaration signals a major shift towards an accountability-driven political structure within the Abia APC, where party leaders may be expected to prove their relevance through measurable electoral performance rather than merely relying on their political status, influence or connections.
Responding to the challenge, an APC member, Sam Anya, assured party leaders that efforts were already underway in Ohafia to build a formidable political structure capable of delivering victory for President Tinubu and other candidates of the party in the state.
Meanwhile, as part of efforts to heal divisions and strengthen the party ahead of the crucial 2027 general elections, Chukwu inaugurated a peace and reconciliation committee headed by Madukwe Ukaegbu.
The committee is expected to engage aggrieved members, resolve internal disputes and promote unity within the party following the primary elections.
With the new reconciliation committee in place and a tough performance-based reward system being proposed, the Abia APC appears set to enter the 2027 election cycle with a clear message to its leaders and stakeholders: political rewards must now be matched by electoral results.
