OOP Rector, Dr. Christopher Okoro Takes the Lead, Outpaces Prof. Nnenna Oti, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede in LEEX Education Administrator of the Year Poll

The Rector of Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic (OOP), Aba, Engr. Dr. Christopher Kalu Okoro, has emerged as the leading candidate in the ongoing online poll for the 8th LEEX Leadership Excellence Award in the category of Education Administrator of the Year.
The award ceremony is scheduled to hold on Thursday, November 12, 2026, at the Nigeria Air Force (NAF) Banquet Hall, Abuja, where outstanding Nigerians who have distinguished themselves through leadership, professionalism and service are expected to be recognised.
Dr. Okoro, a Nigerian doctor of Electrical Power and Machines with specialisation in Control of Drives, was appointed in March 2024 by Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, as the 11th substantive Rector of Abia State Polytechnic, Aba, now known as Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic.
Since assuming office, his leadership of the institution has continued to attract attention, particularly among education stakeholders and members of the Abia community who see the recognition as an acknowledgement of his contributions to the administration and development of the Polytechnic.
His nomination places him alongside two other prominent figures in Nigeria’s education sector: Prof. Nnenna Oti, the first female substantive Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), and Prof. Ishaq Olanrewaju Oloyede, a renowned academic and Islamic studies scholar who served as Registrar and Chief Executive of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) from 2016 until mid-2026 and is a former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin.
Prof. Oti is also widely remembered for her role as the Returning Officer during the 2023 Abia State governorship election, where she was praised for her handling of the electoral process. Governor Alex Otti subsequently named the Umuahia Bus Terminal after her in recognition of her contributions.
As of Thursday, August 13, 2026, Dr. Christopher Kalu Okoro is leading the online voting in the Education Administrator of the Year category, with calls growing among Abians, education stakeholders and other supporters for increased votes to sustain his position and push him towards victory.
The ongoing poll provides an opportunity for supporters of the Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic Rector to demonstrate their confidence in his leadership and educational administration.
