PMS Prices Climb Nationwide as Abia Records Moderate Increase in November 2025, as NBS Data Reveals State-by-State Shifts
The average pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) increased across most parts of Nigeria between October and November 2025, according to the latest figures released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), reflecting continued volatility in the downstream petroleum sector.
In Abia State, the data indicates a moderate but noticeable rise, with the average price per litre moving from ₦1,012.50 in October to ₦1,040 in November 2025. Although this represents an upward adjustment, Abia remains within the lower-to-mid price range nationally, particularly when compared with several states in the North-East and North-West where PMS prices climbed above ₦1,100 per litre.
The NBS figures show that 31 out of 37 states and locations recorded increases during the period under review, highlighting the widespread nature of the price movement. States such as Borno, Sokoto, Kogi, Yobe, Bauchi, Benue, Taraba, Jigawa, Gombe, Zamfara, Rivers and the Federal Capital Territory all experienced varying levels of increases, with Borno recording the highest average price at ₦1,133.86 in November.
Despite the general upward trend, Abia’s November average of ₦1,040 remains significantly lower than figures recorded in states like Borno at ₦1,133.86, Sokoto at ₦1,118.83 and Kogi at ₦1,110, reinforcing its relatively moderate position on the national pricing scale.
A few states deviated from the dominant trend. Ekiti recorded a slight decline from ₦1,058.49 in October to ₦1,056.32 in November, while Oyo posted a more visible reduction from ₦1,001.79 to ₦997.39. Meanwhile, Imo, Anambra, Bayelsa, Ogun, Akwa Ibom and Plateau maintained stable average prices across the two months.
For residents of Abia State, the November increase reflects ongoing market pressures linked to supply dynamics, transportation costs and broader deregulation effects in the petroleum sector. However, the state’s relatively controlled pricing offers some relief amid rising fuel costs nationwide.
As Nigeria continues to adjust to evolving market conditions in the post-subsidy era, the NBS report underscores the importance of state-level analysis in understanding how national energy trends translate into everyday costs for citizens and businesses, with close attention now turning to price movements in the closing weeks of the year.
