Rivers ADC Faction Declares Support for Wike’s Rainbow Coalition Ahead of 2027 Elections
A faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Rivers State has thrown its weight behind the Rainbow Coalition led by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The faction, which is loyal to the party’s National Chairman, Ibe Kachikwu, announced its decision during an engagement meeting held in Isiokpo, the headquarters of Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The development comes amid the lingering leadership crisis within the ADC, with rival groups laying claim to the party’s national leadership. Despite the dispute, the Rivers faction insisted it would continue to work with the Wike-led coalition while awaiting the Supreme Court’s final decision on the matter.
According to the faction, the decision to align with the coalition followed a directive from the party’s national leadership under Kachikwu.
Speaking during the meeting in a video that has since gone viral, the ADC Secretary in Ikwerre Local Government Area, Samuel Chuku, disclosed that party members across Rivers State had been instructed to support the coalition in preparation for the 2027 elections.
He said the faction remained the authentic leadership of the ADC in Ikwerre Local Government Area and warned individuals loyal to former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, against presenting themselves as executives of the party.
“Our leader, Ibe Kachikwu, has directed ADC in Rivers to align with the coalition led by Nyesom Wike.
“We are aware that some persons are parading themselves as ADC leaders in Ikwerre Local Government.
“We are here to tell those people that they are intruders. They want to reap from where they did not sow,” Chuku said.
Reaffirming the faction’s position, Chuku stated that members would continue to support the Rainbow Coalition until the apex court settles the leadership tussle within the party.
“ADC leadership has directed that we should align with the coalition headed by Wike pending when the Supreme Court will decide who should be the authentic national [leadership],” he stated.
The Rivers faction maintained that its support for the Rainbow Coalition would remain unchanged until the Supreme Court delivers its verdict on the leadership dispute, insisting that it is acting in line with directives from the party’s national leadership under Ibe Kachikwu.
