“The Future Starts Now”: Mayor Timothy Kalu Iheke Celebrates Aba North Youths, Hails Otti’s TechRise as Game-Changer for Abia’s Next Generation
As the world commemorates International Youth Day 2026, the Executive Mayor of Aba North Local Government Area, Hon. Timothy Kalu Iheke, has celebrated the youths of Aba North and Abia State, describing them as a powerful force capable of driving innovation, economic transformation and sustainable development.
With this year’s theme, “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations,” Hon. Iheke said young people may come from different backgrounds and face different challenges, but they remain united by common aspirations for opportunity, dignity, meaningful employment, self-reliance, innovation and a better future.
The Mayor’s message comes amid growing efforts by the Abia State Government to equip young people with the skills required to thrive in a rapidly changing economy.
He urged Aba North youths not to allow today’s challenges to define their tomorrow, but to see their circumstances as a launching pad for greater achievements.
According to him, the strength of any society lies significantly in the creativity, energy and determination of its younger generation, stressing that youths must be encouraged to move from being beneficiaries of opportunities to becoming creators of opportunities.
A major focus of the Mayor’s message was the TechRise initiative and its cohorts, one of the youth-focused initiatives of Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR.
Hon. Iheke highlighted TechRise as an important demonstration of the administration’s commitment to human capital development, technology and innovation, particularly at a time when digital skills are increasingly shaping employment, entrepreneurship and global competitiveness.
He encouraged young people across Aba North and Abia State to take advantage of technology-focused training and other empowerment opportunities, noting that the next generation of software developers, entrepreneurs, innovators, technology professionals and global business leaders could emerge from Aba.
The Mayor stressed that government must not merely speak about preparing young people for the future but must create practical pathways through which they can acquire relevant skills and turn their talents into sustainable livelihoods.
For Hon. Iheke, the future of Aba lies in combining the city’s renowned entrepreneurial culture with modern technology and innovation.
Aba has long been recognised for its creativity, craftsmanship, manufacturing and commercial activities.
The Mayor believes that when this entrepreneurial spirit is matched with digital knowledge and modern technology, Aba’s young population can unlock opportunities far beyond the traditional boundaries of the city.
He called on youths to develop their talents, acquire new skills, build strong professional networks and embrace entrepreneurship rather than waiting passively for employment opportunities.
He also urged them not to be discouraged by the success of others or compare their individual journeys with what they see on social media.
The Mayor reminded young people that their starting point does not have to determine where they eventually arrive. Whether from Aba North or any other part of Abia State, he said young people have the capacity to overcome limitations when they combine determination with knowledge, discipline, integrity and consistent self-development.
He encouraged them to remain committed to learning, embrace honest work and continually seek opportunities that can improve their skills and broaden their horizons.
Hon. Iheke also called on governments, businesses, community leaders and other stakeholders to intensify efforts to provide young people with access to training, finance, mentorship, entrepreneurship opportunities and platforms for meaningful participation in governance and community development. He described youth empowerment not as charity, but as a strategic investment in the future of society.

As Abia continues to place emphasis on skills development, technology and human capital under Governor Alex Otti’s administration, Hon. Iheke encouraged youths to position themselves to benefit from emerging opportunities.
He further reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to initiatives that promote youth development, entrepreneurship, empowerment and inclusion across Aba North.
Hon. Iheke declared that the youths of Aba North must never see themselves as spectators in the development of their community.
Rather, he described them as partners, innovators, entrepreneurs, leaders and builders of the Aba of tomorrow. He urged them to dream beyond their immediate circumstances, work relentlessly towards their goals and remain committed to excellence.
From classrooms to technology hubs, workshops to startups, businesses to the global digital economy, the Mayor said the possibilities available to young people are enormous.
With initiatives such as TechRise, coupled with the resilience and entrepreneurial spirit of Abia’s youths, he expressed optimism that a new generation of young people can emerge to transform Aba and position Abia more prominently in Nigeria’s technology and innovation ecosystem.
As International Youth Day 2026 is celebrated around the world, Hon. Timothy Kalu Iheke’s message to the youths of Aba North and Abia is one of hope, action and responsibility. Different young people may have different backgrounds, experiences and challenges, but their aspirations for a better life remain common. The challenge, therefore, is to turn those aspirations into action.
For the Mayor, the time has come for the youths of Aba North and Abia to rise above limitations, seize available opportunities, acquire the skills of the future and boldly take their place in shaping the society they desire.
