“They Recycled an Old Letter From Trump, There’s No Letter of Commendation From Him in 2026“ – Chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and Former Presidential Aide, Lauretta Onochie Challenges Presidency
Fresh controversy has erupted over claims that United States President Donald Trump sent a letter commending President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over his administration’s achievements in tackling insecurity.
The debate intensified after Lauretta Onochie, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and former presidential aide, publicly challenged the Presidency to release the alleged letter, insisting that no such commendation was issued in 2026.
In a statement shared on her official X handle on Thursday, July 23, 2026, Onochie alleged that the Presidency recycled an old correspondence in an attempt to score political points.
Her remarks came after the Presidency announced that President Trump had extended a letter of commendation to President Tinubu in recognition of his administration’s efforts in the fight against insecurity.
However, the announcement quickly sparked debate, with critics questioning both the authenticity and timing of the purported letter.
Joining the growing controversy, Onochie dismissed the claim, maintaining that the document being referenced was not a fresh letter but an older correspondence sent in response to President Tinubu’s congratulatory message to President Trump following his political victory.
She argued that the letter was originally written between late 2024 and early 2025 and had no connection to developments in 2026.
Throwing down a direct challenge to the Presidency, Onochie called on government officials to make the alleged commendation letter public if it truly exists.
According to her, “There no letter of commendation from Trump in 2026. The letter they are referencing was written in response to Tinubu’s congratulatory message to Trump in late 2024 or early 2025.“
