₦5 Million Challenge: Bayo Bilisi Dares Peter Obi Supporters to Produce UNN Coursemate Who Graduated With Him
A fresh controversy surrounding the university history of former Anambra State Governor and Nigeria Democratic Party (NDC) presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, has erupted on social media, with X user Bayo Bilisi putting a ₦5 million wager on a challenge involving Obi’s years at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN).
Bilisi has challenged supporters of the former governor, popularly known as “Obidients,” to produce the name of at least one coursemate who attended the University of Nigeria, Nsukka with Obi and graduated alongside him.
The social media user said he was prepared to stake ₦5 million on the challenge and gave interested parties one week to provide evidence capable of establishing the identity of such a coursemate.
The challenge has since generated discussions online, particularly because it touches on a publicly documented aspect of Obi’s educational background.
According to available biographical records, Peter Obi gained admission to the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, in 1980 and graduated in 1984 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy. He is publicly recognised as an alumnus of the institution and has also maintained links with the university through engagements with students and the academic community.
However, Bilisi’s challenge goes beyond simply establishing that Obi attended UNN. His demand is specifically for the identification of a fellow student who studied alongside Obi and graduated within the same period.
Bilisi has also proposed an escrow arrangement in an attempt to give the proposed wager a mechanism for independent verification. He suggested that X personality Wizarab10 could hold the funds in escrow should the challenge proceed.
His post included the expression, “No be Cho Cho Cho,” signalling his insistence that the ₦5 million offer should be regarded as a serious commitment rather than merely another social media provocation.
The controversy has nevertheless raised an important distinction between a challenge and evidence.
Bilisi’s inability, at any given point, to identify a coursemate would not in itself establish that Peter Obi had no classmates or that nobody graduated alongside him.
Any definitive conclusion on the matter would require credible evidence, potentially including official university records, graduation lists, archival materials or testimony from contemporaries who attended UNN during the period in question.
For now, Bilisi’s ₦5 million offer has transformed a question about Peter Obi’s university years into another high-profile social media contest, with the clock now effectively placed on Obi’s supporters to produce the evidence demanded by the challenger.
Whether the challenge ultimately produces documentary evidence, a verifiable coursemate or simply fuels another round of online debate remains to be seen.
