ABIA HEALTH SECTOR PARTNERSHIPS SAVE OVER ₦2.5BN AS STATE GOVERNMENT ANNOUNCES IMPACTFUL GLOBAL MEDICAL MISSION
The Abia State Government has revealed that its strategic collaborations with international and local medical organizations have saved the state upwards of ₦2.5 billion in health care costs, according to a recent report released by the Ministry of Health.
The disclosure was made on Monday by the Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, while briefing journalists at Government House, Umuahia, shortly after the Executive Council meeting chaired by Governor Alex Otti.
Prince Kanu explained that the partnerships secured under the current administration’s health development agenda have not only boosted access to quality healthcare but have also protected thousands of Abia residents from financial burdens associated with medical services.
He noted that the state’s collaboration with key global health organizations enabled by Governor Otti’s strategic leadership has positioned Abia as a rapidly improving health hub in the region.
According to him, “The partners include Revive Belgium, ProHealth, Olusegun Obasanjo Foundation, Living Hope Foundation, NDDC, etc.”
The Commissioner emphasized that these alliances have resulted in life-saving interventions across the state, ranging from free surgeries to specialized treatments and medical supply support.
Prince Kanu further announced that the state is gearing up for another transformative event in the health sector as the Abia State Global Medical Mission is scheduled to hold from December 15th to 18th.
He described the initiative as a major medical outreach designed to deliver high-impact healthcare to residents across all parts of the state.
According to him, “This is a collaboration between the state government, Abia State Diaspora Council and the Ministry of Health.”
Highlighting its significance, the Commissioner stated, “The outreach promises to be a significant medical outreach that will affect the lives of Abians in very many significant ways.”
The state government says it remains committed to leveraging partnerships to expand access to quality healthcare and deliver lasting improvements that promote the wellbeing of citizens.
With the upcoming Global Medical Mission, the administration believes that Abia is on course to strengthen its public health system and continue a dynamic drive toward a healthier population.
