Rivers Assembly Resumes After Six-Month Suspension, Presses Governor Fubara to Submit Commissioner-Nominees as Democracy Restored in State

The Rivers State House of Assembly on Thursday reconvened in Port Harcourt for its first plenary session in six months, immediately sending a strong call to Governor Siminalayi Fubara to forward the long-awaited list of commissioner-nominees for screening and confirmation.

The sitting, held at the Conference Hall of the Legislative Quarters along Aba Road, marked a significant return to legislative duties following the lifting of emergency rule in the state.

Lawmakers used the session to commend President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for restoring democratic governance in Rivers State after months of political tension and suspension of democratic institutions. They further assured residents of their commitment to uphold agreements reached with stakeholders to ensure peace, stability, and smooth governance.

With the presidential directive restoring normalcy, Governor Fubara, his deputy, and members of the Assembly are set to resume full constitutional responsibilities. The Assembly’s immediate focus, however, remains the swift constitution of the state’s executive council to accelerate governance and service del ivery.
