The Abia State Government in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture is set to commemorate the 2025 World Food Day tomorrow, Thursday, October 16, 2025, at 10:00 AM at the International Conference Centre (ICC), Umuahia. The landmark event, hosted under the auspices of His Excellency, Governor Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, will spotlight sustainable food systems and community-driven approaches to eradicating hunger and promoting nutrition security.

This year’s celebration, themed “Hand in Hand for Better Food and a Better Future,” emphasizes the importance of collaboration among government agencies, non-governmental organizations, academic institutions, development partners, the private sector, and local communities. The event seeks to inspire collective action toward building resilient, inclusive, and nutrition-sensitive food systems across Abia State.

In a formal invitation signed by Dr. Cliff Agbaeze, FCIB, Honourable Commissioner for Agriculture, the government called on stakeholders in governance, agriculture, food and nutrition security, and community welfare to actively participate. The Commissioner noted that the gathering will serve as a melting pot for ideas that will advance Abia’s food security agenda and strengthen its agricultural development framework.

The celebration will feature keynote addresses, high-level panel discussions, exhibitions by farmers and agro-processors, and interactive sessions aimed at promoting innovation, policy coherence, and partnerships that drive the transformation of food systems in the state.

Governor Otti’s administration is using the 2025 World Food Day as an opportunity to reaffirm its unwavering commitment to achieving a food-secure Abia. The government continues to champion initiatives that empower farmers, promote agribusiness, and ensure that every Abian has access to healthy, nutritious, and affordable food.
