The Abia State Government has officially announced the 2025 World Food Day Commemoration, set to hold on Thursday, October 16, 2025, at 10:00 AM at the International Conference Centre, Umuahia. The event, hosted under the auspices of His Excellency, Governor Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, promises to spotlight sustainable food systems and community-driven approaches to tackling hunger.

The theme for this year’s celebration, “Hand in Hand for Better Food and a Better Future,” highlights the critical need for collaborative efforts among government agencies, non-governmental organizations, academic institutions, development partners, private sector players, and local communities. The initiative seeks to advance resilient, inclusive, and nutrition-sensitive food systems across the state.

In a formal invitation signed by Dr. Cliff Agbaeze, FCIB, Honourable Commissioner for Agriculture, the state government called on stakeholders in governance, agriculture, food and nutrition security, and community welfare to participate in the event. The Commissioner emphasized that the presence of key actors will enrich discussions and strengthen Abia State’s commitment to achieving food security and sustainable agricultural development.

The celebration is expected to feature keynote addresses, high-level panel discussions, exhibitions by farmers and agro-processors, and interactive sessions, all designed to foster innovation, policy coherence, and strategic partnerships in the transformation of food systems.

Governor Otti’s administration is using this platform to reinforce its dedication to a food-secure future and to encourage stakeholders to work hand in hand in improving nutrition and food availability for all Abians and beyond.
