Abia Lawmakers Raise Alarm Over Deplorable Condition of Umuahia–Bende–Arochukwu–Ohafia Federal Road, Urge Urgent Government Intervention Ahead of Yuletide
The Abia State House of Assembly has drawn urgent attention to the worsening condition of the Umuahia–Bende–Arochukwu–Ohafia Federal Road, calling on both state and federal authorities to take immediate remedial action to alleviate the suffering of motorists and residents who rely heavily on the route.
During Tuesday’s plenary, the Member representing Ohafia South State Constituency, Hon. Kalu Mba Nwoke, lamented the deplorable state of the road, describing it as a major source of hardship for travelers and communities along the corridor. He urged the State Government to urgently embark on palliative repairs to ease movement, particularly with the yuletide season fast approaching.
Supporting the motion, the Member representing Arochukwu State Constituency, Hon. Okoro Uchenna Kalu, echoed similar concerns, emphasizing that the road serves as a vital economic and social link connecting multiple local government areas. He called on the Commissioner for Works to swiftly deploy resources for the repair of the worst sections of the road to prevent further deterioration.
Hon. Okoro further appealed to Federal lawmakers representing Bende and Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituencies to join forces in pushing for lasting federal intervention, stressing that the road’s current state poses both economic and safety risks to thousands of commuters.
The House, while acknowledging the significance of the motion, resolved to formally communicate the matter to the appropriate government agencies for immediate remedial action to ensure safer and more convenient travel for Abians during the festive
period.
