GOV. ALEX OTTI SPEAKS TO ABIANS: Gov. Alex Otti Unveils Groundbreaking Biotechnology Project and State-Led Electricity Regulation to Transform Power Supply in Abia
In a bold move to strengthen Abia State’s infrastructure and technological innovation, Governor Alex Chioma Otti on Thursday unveiled plans to launch a biotechnology pilot project aimed at converting waste into biogas energy, a strategic initiative designed to bolster power supply, particularly in Umuahia.
Governor Otti made this revelation at the Government House, Umuahia, during the January 2026 edition of “Governor Alex Otti Speaks to Abians,” the state’s monthly media engagement platform where the governor interacts directly with journalists to discuss governance, development, and public policy.
Highlighting the state’s commitment to self-reliance and efficient energy management, the governor also announced that Abia State has officially assumed control of electricity regulation from the national regulator.
“Our offer to EEDC has been accepted, and on the 24th, the Abia State Electricity Regulatory Authority took over from NERC. Electricity regulation in Abia will now be handled by the state,” he declared, emphasizing the administration’s drive to ensure that power management is more responsive to the needs of Abians.
Governor Otti’s announcements mark a significant step towards modernizing the state’s energy sector while simultaneously promoting sustainable technology, signaling a new era of innovation and local empowerment in Abia.
