Abia Premier Mayors Meet Today to Reaffirm Solidarity to Governor Otti, Strengthen Grassroots Political Front

The Association of Premier Mayors in Abia State (APMA) is set to convene a crucial meeting today, Saturday, February 6, 2026, as part of efforts to consolidate a united political front in support of Governor Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
The gathering brings together the 17 pioneer mayors appointed under the present administration, drawn from all the local government areas of the state. The meeting is expected to focus on strengthening internal cohesion, reviewing the impact of ongoing local government reforms, and fine-tuning collective strategies to sustain grassroots governance and political stability across Abia.
The Association, which is currently chaired by its Interim Chairman and Premier Mayor of Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area, (Former Abia State ALGON Chairman) Dr. Elelenta Nwambuisi Elele, has consistently maintained that Governor Otti remains the architect of a new governance order that has repositioned the local government system as a true engine of development and service delivery.
According to the leadership of APMA, the meeting will also serve as a platform to address what the group describes as deliberate attempts by opposition elements linked to failed past administrations to undermine the sweeping transformation taking place in the state’s local government administration.
Members of the Association have repeatedly credited Governor Otti with laying a solid foundation for a functional, transparent, and people-oriented local government structure, noting that for the first time in many years, councils are experiencing visible institutional revival, improved accountability, and renewed focus on community needs.
It is believed that tomorrow’s meeting will further reinforce the political alignment between the grassroots leadership and the state government, while sending a strong signal of unity and continuity within the ranks of local government executives.
With the 2027 elections gradually coming into focus, APMA’s collective stance is seen as a strategic boost for Governor Otti’s re-election prospects, especially at the community level where the Mayors serve as direct links between the government and the people.
The outcome of the meeting is expected to produce a communique outlining the Association’s resolutions, reaffirming loyalty to the Gov Alex Otti administration, and restating its commitment to defending the achievements of the present government while mobilizing sustained grassroots support across Abia State.
