The Abia State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) has declared total and unwavering support for Governor Alex Otti, assuring the Labour Party State Chairman, Sir/Hon. Emmanuel Nwaeze Oti, that local government workers across the state remain firmly aligned with his administration and reform-driven agenda.

The declaration was made during a high-level courtesy visit led by the State President of NULGE, Lady Comrade Unaeze Linda Ihuoma. She was accompanied by the Chief of Staff to the State President, Comrade Prince Iroulo, and the NULGE Chairman of Arochukwu Local Government Area, Comrade Enyinnaya Uyor, during a visit to the party’s state office.

The visit, described by political observers as significant, also served as a strategic engagement to strengthen grassroots coordination and consolidate support structures ahead of the 2027 political season.

Speaking on behalf of the union, Lady Comrade Unaeze Linda Ihuoma commended Governor Otti’s leadership style, describing it as purposeful, worker-friendly, and anchored on transparency and accountability. She noted that local government employees have experienced renewed hope under the current administration, citing improved welfare, prompt attention to workers’ concerns, and revitalized governance at the grassroots.

“We are not just here on a routine visit,” she stated. “We are here to reaffirm that the entire workforce under the local government system in Abia State stands firmly with His Excellency. Our members across the 17 local government areas are united and prepared to support policies and programs that will move Abia forward.”

The union leadership emphasized that local government workers form a critical political and administrative structure within the state, describing them as the engine room of grassroots mobilization and development. They assured that NULGE’s structures across wards and communities would continue to promote stability, productivity, and loyalty to the present administration.

Comrade Prince Iroulo highlighted the importance of sustained collaboration between government and organized labour, stressing that strong partnerships are essential for delivering democratic dividends. Similarly, Comrade Enyinnaya Uyor affirmed the readiness of workers in Arochukwu Local Government Area to stand solidly behind the Governor, whom he described as a reform-driven leader committed to infrastructural renewal and institutional strengthening.

In his response, the Abia State Chairman of the Labour Party, Sir/Hon. Emmanuel Nwaeze Oti, thanked the union leaders for identifying with the party and the state. He described NULGE as an integral part of the party structure and assured them of inclusive leadership that would carry every segment of the workforce along.

Also present at the meeting were members of the State Working Committee (SWC), including DCN Aguiyi Ugochukwu Emmanuel, Zonal Chairman, Abia Central, and Mazi Chidiebere Okoro, State Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party, Abia State.

Speaking during the engagement, party leaders expressed appreciation to the union for their solidarity, emphasizing that continued support for Governor Otti would ensure the completion of numerous ongoing projects and worker-oriented programs across the state. They noted that within less than three years, the Governor has delivered achievements that surpass what was accomplished in the previous 24 years, adding that Abians remain committed to sustaining the current wave of development and will not support any forces perceived as enemies of progress.

The party chairman further commended the union for standing by the Governor, praising his administration’s record in ensuring prompt payment of workers’ salaries, clearing arrears owed by previous administrations, and implementing merit-based welfare policies and reforms aimed at strengthening the workforce.

The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment to deepening grassroots governance, enhancing service delivery, and ensuring that workers remain active partners in the state’s transformation agenda.

Political observers say the open endorsement by NULGE—one of the most structured labour unions within the local government system—signals growing consolidation of grassroots support for Governor Otti as the 2027 political horizon approaches.
