Abia State Govt Unveils Major Urban Renewal Drive as Gov. Alex Otti Set to Commission Ovom Street Road, Break Ground for Enyimba International Hotel, Flag Off Ukwa East General Hospital Project
The Abia State Government has announced a series of landmark projects lined up for commissioning and groundbreaking this week, as Governor Alex Otti intensifies his administration’s urban renewal and infrastructure transformation agenda across key parts of the State.
The Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, disclosed this on Monday at Government House, Umuahia, while briefing journalists on the outcome of this week’s State Executive Council meeting presided over by the Governor.
According to the Commissioner, Governor Otti will on Wednesday commission the Ovom Street Road project in Aba and perform the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the Enyimba International Hotel, two projects described as pivotal to the ongoing rebirth of Aba as a thriving commercial nerve centre.
Prince Kanu highlighted the strategic importance and technical uniqueness of the Ovom Street Road project, noting that it stands out as one of the most innovative engineering interventions undertaken by the present administration.
“This road project is indeed a watershed because the project site was first recovered from erosion before the road was designed to occupy the former erosion site.
“And this happens to be one of the most captivating engineering feats of this administration.
“Both projects (Ovom road and Enyimba Hotel) represent significant milestones in the urban renewal and infrastructure development of Aba as a commercial centre of Abia State,” Prince Kanu stated.
The Commissioner explained that the successful reclamation of the erosion-ravaged site before the road construction underscores the administration’s deliberate commitment not only to building infrastructure but also to solving long-standing environmental challenges that have hindered development in parts of Aba.
The Enyimba International Hotel project, which will also be flagged off on Wednesday, is expected to reposition Aba as a destination for business, tourism, and investment. The project aligns with Governor Otti’s broader vision of restoring the city’s lost glory and creating an enabling environment for commerce, hospitality, and international engagements.
Observers say the combination of strategic road infrastructure and hospitality development signals a coordinated urban renewal blueprint designed to stimulate economic growth, create jobs, and attract both local and foreign investors.
Prince Kanu further disclosed that the Governor will on Thursday flag off the construction of the Ukwa East General Hospital located at Ohanku, as part of efforts to expand access to healthcare across the State.
The hospital project, he noted, forms part of the administration’s comprehensive health sector reforms aimed at strengthening primary and secondary healthcare delivery, reducing medical travel, and ensuring that residents in rural and semi-urban communities enjoy improved medical services closer to home.
With these back-to-back projects spanning road infrastructure, hospitality, and healthcare, the Otti-led administration continues to demonstrate its commitment to integrated development, transforming critical sectors while laying the foundation for sustainable economic gro
wth across Abia State.
