ABIA HEIGHTENS DISEASE SURVEILLANCE AS OTTI-LED GOVERNMENT MOVES TO PREVENT LASSA FEVER OUTBREAK, REASSURES RESIDENTS OF STATEWIDE SAFETY
The Abia State Government has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to public health safety, assuring residents that proactive measures have been intensified to guard against the outbreak of infectious diseases, particularly Lassa fever, which has recently been reported in some parts of the country.
Speaking with a tone of confidence and urgency, the Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, conveyed the State’s preparedness and vigilance in protecting the lives of Abians. He emphasized that under the leadership of Governor Alex Otti, the government is not leaving anything to chance in its efforts to maintain a disease-free environment across the State.
Prince Kanu also assured residents that the State is vigilant against infectious diseases, particularly Lassa fever which had broken out in some parts of the country. He noted that the Otti-led administration has significantly scaled up its surveillance systems, ensuring that all potential entry points and vulnerable communities are closely monitored to prevent any possible outbreak.
The Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu disclosed this on Monday, at Government House Umuahia while briefing journalists on the outcome of this week’s State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Alex Otti.
Providing further clarity on the current health situation, Prince Kanu stated, “Lassa fever, which has broken out in some parts of the country, has not got into our State. I want to announce that this outbreak has not been noticed here.
“And the State is working seriously to ensure that all other towns related to the State are kept under surveillance,” Prince Kanu said.
The government’s strategic response underscores a broader commitment to preventive healthcare, with authorities maintaining heightened alertness and deploying necessary resources to detect and respond swiftly to any potential threat. Residents have therefore been encouraged to remain calm while also adhering to basic health and hygiene practices as the State continues its coordinated efforts to safeguard pub
