Abia APC Chairman, Chijioke Chukwu, Under Fire Over Comments on Abia Governance, Gov. Otti’s Policies
The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State, Hon. Chijioke Chukwu, has come under heavy criticism following a series of remarks he made regarding the administration of Governor Alex Otti, sparking renewed political tension in the state.
In a strongly worded reaction issued on March 21, 2026, Ferdinand Ekeoma faulted the APC chairman’s statements, describing them as misleading, inconsistent, and lacking in factual depth. He argued that Chukwu’s emergence as APC chairman had already begun to reflect what he termed “a pattern of contradictions and poor judgment.”
Ekeoma accused the APC chairman of political inconsistency, alleging that his past alignment with key figures within the party had shifted over time in pursuit of personal ambition. He further claimed that Chukwu’s recent comments against prominent APC leaders raised concerns about internal cohesion within the party in Abia State.
The criticism also extended to Chukwu’s analysis of Abia’s financial situation, particularly his claims regarding federal allocations and past governance challenges.
Ekeoma dismissed the assertions as inaccurate, maintaining that such arguments failed to acknowledge significant reforms introduced by the current administration.
Highlighting the policies of Governor Alex Otti, the statement pointed to the payment of salary and pension arrears, the implementation of the new minimum wage, and the abolition of disparities within the civil service structure. It also referenced ongoing efforts to clear outstanding gratuities and improve workers’ welfare across the state.
Ekeoma further emphasized that the current administration had expanded the workforce through transparent recruitment processes in key sectors such as education and healthcare, contrasting it with what he described as opaque practices in previous administrations.
On the issue of “consequential adjustment,” which became a point of contention in the APC chairman’s remarks, Ekeoma clarified that it is a standard policy mechanism used to maintain salary balance following minimum wage increases, dismissing any suggestion that it was a novel or deceptive policy.
The statement concluded by accusing the opposition of engaging in sensational claims and political theatrics rather than constructive criticism, asserting that the Abia electorate remains focused on governance outcomes rather than partisan rhetoric.
As political discourse intensifies in Abia State, the exchange underscores the growing divide between the ruling administration and opposition voices ahead of future electoral contests.
