Aba North Mayor, Hon. Timothy Kalu Iheke, Moves Swiftly to Support Fire Victim, Promises Financial Assistance and Welfare Intervention
In a swift display of empathy and responsive leadership, the Mayor of Aba North Local Government Area, Hon. Timothy Kalu Iheke, has met with Mrs. Uchechi Glory, whose business premises were gutted by fire on Tuesday, leaving her devastated and economically displaced.
The meeting took place at the Aba North Local Government Council Headquarters and was attended by key officials of the council, including the Head of Service of the Aba North Local Government Council and the Council Treasurer, underscoring the seriousness and official commitment attached to the intervention.
The visit followed the Mayor’s earlier on-the-spot assessment of the fire incident, during which he invited the affected businesswoman to the council headquarters for further engagement. True to his word, the council boss received Mrs. Glory and reassured her of the local government’s commitment to not only look into the incident but also to support her welfare and recovery process.
Addressing Mrs. Glory during the meeting, Hon. Iheke encouraged her not to lose hope and to begin plans to return to business as soon as possible, stressing that the council was ready to stand by her in this difficult moment.
“We want you to get back to business as soon as possible and if there’s anyway you’d also want us to come in please do well to inform the council,” Hon. Iheke said.
The Mayor further emphasized that, in his capacity as the Chairman of Aba North Local Government Area, he would personally assist financially to help her restart her business, having lost almost everything to the fire. He noted that governance must be people-centered, especially in moments of sudden hardship and loss.
Demonstrating immediate action, Hon. Iheke gave an express instruction that a financial aide be allotted to Mrs. Glory to enable her start all over again and regain her economic footing without delay.
In her response, Mrs. Uchechi Glory was visibly emotional as she appreciated the Mayor, the council leadership, and the officials present for the rare show of compassion and concern. She described the gesture as truly one of a kind, adding that the Mayor’s words, presence, and intervention had greatly relieved her and restored her hope.
