Aba Power Announces Temporary Electricity Disruption Over Gas Supply Challenges
Residents and businesses within the Aba Ring-fenced area have been thrown into temporary darkness following a major supply interruption announced by Aba Power, as the company disclosed challenges affecting electricity generation and supply to customers.
In an official statement released on May 25, 2026, the management of Aba Power explained that the disruption was caused by a total lack of gas supply to the Geometric Power Aba Limited (GPAL) power plant by its gas supplier, a development that has significantly affected electricity generation operations.
The company further revealed that efforts to supplement supply through the national grid have also suffered setbacks due to administrative issues involving the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO), thereby worsening the power situation across affected communities.
According to the notice issued to customers, the management assured residents that work is ongoing to restore electricity supply as quickly as possible while appealing for patience and understanding during the difficult period.
The development is expected to impact commercial activities, small-scale businesses, and households across Aba and surrounding areas that rely heavily on stable electricity for daily operations.
Despite the setback, Aba Power urged residents to remain vigilant and protect electricity infrastructure within their communities, warning that vandals may attempt to take advantage of the outage to attack or steal distribution assets.
The company emphasized the importance of community cooperation in safeguarding public utility infrastructure while restoration efforts continue.
Management of Aba Power also expressed regret over the inconvenience caused by the interruption and reassured customers of its commitment to restoring normal power su
