Abia EXCO Approves Immediate Erosion Control Intervention in Emede Ibeku Community
The Abia State Government has approved an immediate erosion control intervention in Emede Ibeku Community, Umuahia North Local Government Area, as part of efforts to tackle the persistent environmental challenge threatening lives, homes and infrastructure in the area.
The decision was reached at this week’s Executive Council (EXCO) meeting presided over by Governor Alex Otti, reaffirming the administration’s commitment to protecting communities from the devastating impact of erosion and other environmental hazards.
Briefing journalists on the outcome of the meeting on Monday, the Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, disclosed that the State Executive Council had approved the intervention to address the severe erosion that residents of Emede Ibeku Community have battled for years.
He further announced that the Umuahia Capital Development Authority (UCDA) has received approval to immediately commence erosion control works in the affected community.
The intervention is expected to help safeguard lives and property, restore threatened infrastructure and provide lasting relief to residents, while underscoring the state government’s resolve to respond promptly to critical environmental challenges across Abi
