Abia First Lady, Mrs. Priscilla Otti Supports Over 400 Persons With Disabilities With ₦20m Food, Cash Assistance
Abia State First Lady, Her Excellency Mrs. Priscilla Chidinma Otti, has extended a major humanitarian intervention to more than 400 Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) across the state through her Safe Tent Care Initiative.
The beneficiaries received essential food items and cash assistance valued at a combined N20 million, in a move aimed at easing the impact of prevailing economic challenges on vulnerable members of society.
The intervention was carried out at the Michael Okpara Auditorium, Government House, Umuahia, where Persons With Disabilities gathered to receive the support.
The initiative reflects a broader commitment by the First Lady to promoting inclusion, dignity and practical support for vulnerable groups, particularly those who face additional economic and social barriers.
Since 2023, Mrs. Otti has maintained direct engagement with the PWD community in Abia, listening to their concerns, supporting their initiatives and seeking practical ways to address challenges affecting their welfare and participation in society.
Beyond the immediate food and financial assistance, the Safe Tent Care Initiative is set to sustain regular food outreaches to vulnerable communities, with Persons With Disabilities remaining an important part of the programme.
The initiative is also expected to deepen the inclusion of PWDs in empowerment programmes, particularly skill-acquisition opportunities designed to strengthen economic independence and create sustainable livelihoods.
The latest intervention therefore goes beyond immediate relief, highlighting an approach that combines humanitarian assistance with longer-term empowerment and inclusion.
The event attracted key government officials and stakeholders, including the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Dr. Mrs. Maureen Ijeoma Aghukwa; the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Women Affairs, Mrs. Chinenye Nwaka; and the Special Assistant to the Governor on Disability Matters, Mr. David Anyaele, among others.
With continued engagement and planned expansion of empowerment opportunities, the Safe Tent Care Initiative is positioning support for vulnerable Abians, including Persons With Disabilities, as an ongoing commitment rather than a one
-off intervention.
