Abia Pensioners Declare Total Support for Governor Alex Otti, Say His Achievements Have Already Secured 2027 Victory
…as Abia Pensioners Tells Gov. Otti, “Don’t Waste Money on Campaigns, You’ve Done More Than Expected
Pensioners in Abia State, operating under the umbrella of Concerned Abia Pensioners, have publicly declared their unflinching support for Governor Alex Chioma Otti, insisting that his performance in office within the past two years has rendered any form of political campaign for 2027 unnecessary.
The pensioners made their position known on Thursday during their biweekly meeting held at the Sub-Treasury premises in Umuahia, where they collectively expressed satisfaction with the direction of governance in the state and reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring the Governor’s re-election.
According to the group, the developmental strides, administrative discipline, and people-oriented policies of Governor Otti have already spoken loudly across Abia State, making campaigns a mere formality. They stressed that the Governor enjoys massive grassroots acceptance and that any attempt by opposition parties to rig him out of office would fail.
The pensioners assured the Governor of their continued loyalty and support, describing his administration as a turning point in their long years of suffering. They recalled the era when pensions were owed for months and sometimes years, contrasting it with the current reality where pensions are paid consistently on or before the 28th of every month.
While commending the Governor’s achievements, the pensioners reminded him of his promise to settle their outstanding gratuities. They expressed strong confidence that the administration would fulfill this commitment in due course, given its track record of keeping promises.
The group also appealed to Governor Otti to intervene in the prolonged closure of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) office in Abia State, which they said has forced pensioners to conduct meetings in open spaces. They urged the Governor to prevail on the outgoing state executive of the NUP to reopen the office in the interest of welfare, coordination, and dignity of pensioners.
Speaking at the gathering, the Chairman of Concerned Abia Pensioners, Elder John Kalu, alongside the Coordinator, Chief Emeka Okezie, Elder Ochu I. Ochu, and Mrs. Agbaraevo Rosetta Iheanyichi, took turns to applaud the Governor’s leadership style, describing it as compassionate, transparent, and focused on rebuilding Abia State.
They collectively recounted the hardship pensioners endured in past administrations and noted that Governor Otti’s emergence marked a clear departure from neglect to responsiveness.
Chief Emeka Okezie, in particular, cautioned opposition elements who might attempt to manipulate the political process under the guise of electronic party registration or other schemes, warning that such moves would be resisted by the people of Abia State.
He emphasized that pensioners across the state are solidly behind Governor Otti and remain confident that the long-awaited gratuities would soon be paid, expressing optimism that positive developments could occur even before the end of the month.
A former Permanent Secretary, Elder Ochu I. Ochu, also reiterated that the pensioners are firmly aligned with the Governor and believe strongly in his capacity and sincerity to fulfill all promises made to them. He prayed that God would provide the resources needed for the administration to clear the arrears of gratuities owed to pensioners.
The meeting concluded with collective prayers for Governor Alex Otti, members of his cabinet, and the entire Abia State Government, as the pensioners asked God to continue to guide the administration in its efforts to deliver good governance and lasting developm
ent across the state.
