Abia State Govt. Partners SON to Prepare Aba Entrepreneurs for Global Export, Unveils Plans for 3rd Aba International Trade Fair
The Abia State Government has intensified efforts to position Aba as a leading hub for manufacturing, trade and export, announcing a strategic partnership with the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) to train and certify local entrepreneurs for international market access while commencing preparations for the 3rd Aba International Trade Fair.
The Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, disclosed this on Monday, July 20, 2026, at Government House, Umuahia, while briefing journalists on the outcome of this week’s State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Alex Otti.
Prince Kanu revealed that the Ministry of Trade and Commerce is collaborating with the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) to equip Aba entrepreneurs with the knowledge and certification required to meet international quality standards, thereby preparing them for export opportunities across the global market.
According to him, the initiative is designed to eliminate counterfeit and substandard products while positioning Made-in-Aba products to compete successfully in the global marketplace. He explained that the partnership represents a strategic intervention aimed at strengthening Abia’s industrial base, improving product quality and expanding export opportunities for local manufacturers.
The Commissioner noted that the collaboration would significantly boost the export potential of Aba-made products while helping to eradicate counterfeit and substandard goods from markets across the state, particularly in Aba, thereby enhancing consumer confidence and the reputation of locally manufactured products.
Prince Kanu also announced that the state government has commenced plans for the 3rd Aba International Trade Fair with the theme, Aba, Beyond Boundaries, Driving Innovation, Trade and Industrial Growth.
He explained that the trade fair, which is expected to hold towards the end of the year, will feature two concurrent sessions comprising exhibition and conference activities. The event is expected to provide a platform for manufacturers, investors, entrepreneurs and industry stakeholders to showcase innovations, promote business partnerships, attract investments and explore new markets for Abia-made products.
The twin initiatives underscore the commitment of the Governor Alex Otti-led administration to transforming Aba into a globally competitive industrial and commercial centre by promoting quality standards, supporting local businesses and creating greater access to international trade opportunities.
