Abia State Govt Records Landmark Progress in Land Administration, Issues Over 2,700 Certificates of Occupancy in Two Years

The Abia State Government has recorded another milestone in its drive to enhance transparency, efficiency, and ease of doing business, as the Ministry of Lands continues to sustain its improved pace of issuing Certificates of Occupancy (C of O) within 30 days.

The Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, disclosed this on Monday during a media briefing at the Government House, Umuahia, while speaking on the outcome of this week’s State Executive Council (SEC) meeting.

According to the Information boss, “the State Ministry of Lands has continued to improve on the issuance of Certificate of Occupancy, C of O in 30 days.”

He revealed that, “so far, 420 C of Os were signed in the month of September while year-to-date, 1,432 C of Os have been signed. In the past two years, 2,707 C of Os have been signed.”

Prince Kanu further emphasized the significant improvement achieved under the administration of Governor Alex Chioma Otti, noting that “it is worth noting that the number of C of Os signed in two years is close to the number of C of Os signed in the last eight years.”

He highlighted that this initiative is part of the government’s broader agenda to strengthen property rights, attract investors, and simplify bureaucratic processes for land ownership in the state.

“This C of Os in 30 days offering, in part, speaks to the improved ease of doing business atmosphere currently being enjoyed by the business community in Abia State,” the Commissioner stated.

Observers have commended this achievement as a practical demonstration of Governor Otti’s commitment to promoting efficiency, accountability, and investor confidence through digital and administrative reforms within the Ministry of Lands and other critical sectors of governance.
