Abia State Govt. Sets September 24 for Solemn Assembly, Covenant Renewal as State Declares Three Days of Prayer and Fasting
The Abia State Government has announced a state-wide Solemn Assembly and Covenant Renewal Service, calling on political leaders, civil servants, religious bodies, traditional institutions, families and residents to dedicate the affairs and future of the state to God.
The programme, themed “REMEMBERING THE COVENANT,” is designed as a period of collective prayer, fasting, thanksgiving, spiritual reflection and renewal of commitment to the wellbeing and progress of Abia State.
As part of the programme, the state government has declared three days of prayer and fasting from Monday, September 21 to Wednesday, September 23, 2026, with participants expected to observe the daily fast from 6:00am to 3:00pm.
The exercise will involve members of the State Executive Council, political appointees, elected officials, civil servants, churches and families, who are expected to participate from their respective locations as Abians collectively seek divine direction and renewal.
The climax will be the Solemn Assembly/Covenant Renewal Service scheduled to hold on Thursday, September 24, 2026, at the JAAC Building Auditorium, Umuahia, from 2:00pm to 5:00pm.
The gathering is expected to bring together members of the State Executive Council, elected officials, political appointees, civil service leadership, church leaders, traditional rulers, political party leaders and other key stakeholders.
Beyond the formal gathering, the Solemn Assembly is expected to provide a platform for representatives from different sectors of the state to come together in prayer and reflection, while renewing their commitment to the covenant and committing the affairs of Abia and its people into the hands of God.
The spiritual activities will subsequently extend into the churches, with Thanksgiving Services scheduled for Saturday, September 26, 2026, across all Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) Churches in Abia State.
Similarly, Sunday, September 27, 2026, has been designated for Thanksgiving Services in other churches across the state.
The state government has consequently called on all relevant participants, churches, families and stakeholders to actively take part in the programme, describing the period as an opportunity for prayer, spiritual reflection, thanksgiving and renewed commitment to the peace, development and overall wellbeing of Abia State.
The programme was announced by Prince Okey Kanu, Hon. Commissioner for Information, in a statement dated September 21, 2026.
