The Abia State Government has concluded arrangements to commemorate the 2026 International Women’s Day in a unique and impactful manner, with a strong emphasis on philanthropy, compassion, and social responsibility among women across the state.
Prince Kanu stated that the state Ministry of Women Affairs in collaboration with the Office of the First Lady of Abia State, Mrs. Priscilla Otti would celebrate this year’s edition of the 2026 International Women’s Day.
The Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu stated this on Monday at Government House Umuahia, while briefing journalists on the outcome of this week’s State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Alex Otti.
He explained that although the global observance of International Women’s Day traditionally holds every March 8, Abia women have chosen a different date this year to ensure broader participation and a more impactful celebration.
“Although the event is usually celebrated on the 8th of March of every year, the women in the state decided to celebrate this year’s version on the 31st of March.
“The event, therefore, will be held at the International Conference Centre here in Umuahia tomorrow by 10 a.m. The theme for this year’s conference is “Give to Gain”, an exhortation to all and sundry, particularly the womenfolk, to engage in philanthropic activities that will benefit the less privileged in society,” Prince Kanu stated.
The planned event is expected to bring together women from diverse backgrounds, including professionals, entrepreneurs, community leaders, and grassroots mobilizers, in a shared commitment to uplift vulnerable groups and promote inclusive development across Abia State.
With the active involvement of the Ministry of Women Affairs and the Office of the First Lady, the celebration underscores the state government’s continued dedication to advancing gender equality, empowering women, and fostering a culture of giving that strengthens communities and inspires collect
ive progress.
