Abia Tricycle Operators Union Urges Aba Residents to Embrace Ongoing Voter Registration, Warns Against Fake INEC Officials

The leadership of the Abia State Tricycle Operators Union (ASTOPU), Aba Zone, has called on residents of Aba and its environs to seize the opportunity presented by the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise to register, revalidate, or transfer their voter cards.

Speaking through its Zonal Chairman, Hon. Victor Azubuike, ASTOPU urged members of the union and the general public to mobilize their households, family members, and neighbours to actively participate in the exercise, describing it as a civic duty and a powerful tool for shaping the future of Abia State and Nigeria.

Hon. Azubuike also sounded a note of caution against fraudulent individuals parading themselves as staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). He explained that some unscrupulous elements have reportedly been moving around wards and communities, deceiving unsuspecting residents with fake promises of registration.

He clarified that the only legitimate registration centers are the INEC offices in Aba North, Aba South, Obingwa, and Ugwunagbo Local Government Areas, in addition to the registration points located at each local government council headquarters.

The ASTOPU Zonal Chairman reaffirmed the union’s commitment to sensitizing its members and the general public on the importance of participating in credible electoral processes, stressing that active voter registration is the foundation of true democratic representation.

Azubuike called on youths, first-time voters, and those who relocated within Abia State to take advantage of the ongoing exercise, adding that the union would continue to partner with relevant stakeholders to ensure that Aba residents are not disenfranchised.

“With our collective participation in this registration, we can guarantee that the voice of Aba and its people will be heard loud and clear in future elections,” he emphasized.
