The Abia State Government (ABSG) has taken another decisive step towards enhancing environmental cleanliness and effective waste management across the state, as Governor Alex Otti has granted approval for the Abia State Environmental Protection Agency (ASEPA) to oversee the construction and deployment of 100 additional bucket bins.

The Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, made this known on Monday during a press briefing at Government House, Umuahia, while speaking on the outcome of this week’s State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Alex Otti.

According to Prince Kanu, “The construction of the bin buckets is being undertaken by Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic, Aba.”

He further explained that “With the deployment of these additional bin buckets, it is hoped that the laudable waste disposal and sanitation activities of ASEPA will take the state to an even higher level of cleanliness.”

The Commissioner noted that this initiative underscores the Otti-led administration’s unwavering commitment to sustaining a clean, healthy, and environmentally friendly Abia. He emphasized that by engaging a local institution, the government is not only promoting cleanliness but also encouraging indigenous participation and capacity development in environmental technology.

The new bin buckets, when deployed, are expected to strengthen ASEPA’s waste management framework, reduce littering, and enhance the overall aesthetic appeal of urban and rural communities across the state.
