Christmas Homecoming Turns Tragic in Edo as Returnee Allegedly Killed by Childhood Friend at Housewarming Party in Oben Village
Oben Village in Benin City, Edo State, has been thrown into deep mourning following a tragic incident that claimed the life of a 43-year-old returnee, Eghosa Osas, who had come back from abroad to celebrate the Christmas season with his family.
The incident, which reportedly occurred on December 27, 2025, happened during a housewarming party in the community.
According to accounts from the area, Osas had briefly excused himself from the gathering when he was allegedly confronted and attacked by his childhood friend, Amadin William, popularly known as “Old Soldier.”
Sources within the community disclosed that the attack took place when the victim was alone, shortly after stepping away from the event. The sudden and violent nature of the incident left guests and residents in shock, abruptly cutting short what was meant to be a joyful celebration.
Following the incident, the suspect reportedly fled the scene, sparking concern and tension within Oben Village.
However, swift efforts by security operatives led to his arrest in Benin City the next day.
Confirming the development, the Edo State Police Public Relations Officer, Eno Ikoedem, stated that the case was formally reported by the victim’s elder brother. The police spokesperson noted that investigations are currently ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident, adding that the suspect will be charged to court upon the conclusion of the inquiry.
The death of Eghosa Osas has cast a dark cloud over the Christmas festivities in the community, with residents struggling to come to terms with the loss. Many described the incident as heartbreaking, particularly given the long-standing relationship between the victim and the alleged attacker.
As grief and disbelief ripple through Oben Village, community members have called on law enforcement authorities to ensure that justice is served, while also urging residents to remain calm as investigations continue.
